- First what version of MovieShop are you using? If you don't have 3.4 get it!
- Well sometimes you get fifoerrors and datatransfer errors, much of these
- problems is probably due to the fact that you can only get about 1.9Mb/sec.
- sustained over the Z-II bus with max bursts of 2.1Mb/sec.
-
- The Draco handels 3Mb/sec sustained and 3.5Mb/sec in bursts over the Z-2 bus.
- with the standard VLab Motion. So you get fewer errors...
-
- MacroSystem will be shoving (off) the new VLabMotion at NAB this weekend it
- handels +8Mb/sec!!
-
- What SCSI.controller are you using? You really need a Fast SCSI-II controller
- or best of all an accelerator with built in controller.
-
- Things to do to reduce datarate:
-
- turn on smoothing filter (don't use aoutomatic filter LOOKS like shit when it
- goes to work on a static image, it looks like the focus is pumping back and
- forth).
-
- Reduce the size of the digitized image as much as possible, I get by with 720
- x 544 (even one step smaller on this one).
-
- Do not use 16 bit audio!!! The higher quality audio the lower quality video!!
- I use Alaw (or is it Ulaw) at 33.000 stereo.
-
- I usually use 512 K for both record and playback buffers on my WarpEngine with
- a 4GB Seagate Hawk.
-
- If the tape you're trying to record is damaged or has some corrupt synk on
- certain areas switch to Free instead of Window. This totally ignores the
- synksignals coming from the tape and the VLab card generates it's own. The
- drawback with this is if you record in this mode for a longer period the sound
- will get out of synk! This can be fixed in MovieShop manually.
-
- When the problem occurs with only sound playback and no video, press stopp and
- move manually to the startingpoint, move forward to check where the frames
- start to get corrupt. At this point there's probably a problem with the
- synk on the tape.
-
- Other things to check:
-
- Is your VLab M card upgraded to version 1.3 ie. have you had it modified (if
- you have an older version of the card).
-
- If you're using a GVP SCSI controller get another one!
-
- If you are using a Fastlane controller make sure it's revision 2.4 (otherwise
- send it to Phase 5 to have it upgraded or sell it!).
-
-
- I hope these tips may help!
